National-Geographic-1888.jpgThe Task:

It is the early 1890s and tensions in Nigeria have been mounting. The British have been colonizing Nigeria for some time now, and they have started to send in Christian missionaries to convert the Nigerian Africans to their way of life and religious belief system. Specifically, the British and their missionaries are targeting an African tribe in Nigeria known as the Igbo.

In order for the readers of National Geographic to get an accurate picture of what is going on in Nigeria with the Igbo, your team of researchers will have to write articles on a variety of subjects. Remember, the society was created "for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge," so be very careful while writing your magazine articles to report thoroughly and accurately on the topics listed on the procedures page.

The Assignment:

Each member of the group must create one magazine page on your topic for the National Geographic magazine. Together, when finished, your team will submit a multi-page newsletter to present to your editor (Your Teacher!).

AVOID PLAGIARISM! You are to read the articles associated with your research role and then write your article or articles in your own words! Do not cut and paste information from websites - you will not receive credit for the project in this case. If you have any doubts about what plagiarism is, consult the OWL (Online Writing Lab) at Purdue University.
